Student List candidate says reorganize healthcare
Student List candidate, retired Belgrade University professor of medicine, Aleksandar N. Neskovic said a change of government would be followed by an immediate reorganisation of management in public healthcare institutions, in line with the law. Neskovic told Vreme weekly, that most healthcare institution CEOs had not been appointed through public competitions but had instead been named acting CEOs by the health minister, often remaining in those positions for years despite the legal limit of six months. New acting CEOs would be appointed before regular competitions were organised, with candidates required to meet all legal requirements and present development plans for their institutions. Neskovic also promised efforts to update waiting lists for diagnostic procedures and medical interventions and prevent their manipulation. He said longer-term reforms would require legislative changes, including reducing administrative workloads and giving doctors more time with patients. Improving healthcare workers' pay and working conditions would also be a priority, he added.
