Nis student activists: Vucic cannot pardon himself, time for accountability is coming

Student activists at the University of Nis announced Tuesday evening that “the time for accountability is coming,” stating that “no one is above the law - neither those who hid behind their offices nor those who protected them,” and declaring that former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic cannot pardon himself. In a statement published on social media by the “Students in Blockade Nis” accounts, the activists said they were “shocked but not the least bit surprised” by the former Serbian president’s decision to pardon city of Nis officials, including former members of the city’s Emergency Headquarters. Those individuals had been facing criminal proceedings before the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Court in Nis on suspicion of abuse of office. They noted that the case involves allegations that the city budget was defrauded of more than 7 million euro.
