CoE Secretary General: Serbian student movement sets a model for rest of Europe

Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Alain Berset said during his address to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities that the Serbian student movement can serve as a model for similar movements spreading across the continent. “When young people protest, it is tempting to see only a problem of public order. To answer with curfews and bans. Or to look for a foreign hand behind every crowd,” Berset said. He added that in these situations, the answer cannot be less democracy in the name of security.
